wine and shoes.

Two of my weaknesses...wine and shoes :) Here is an easy way for you to enjoy both AND save the world this holiday season.

Have you ever heard of FlipFlop Wine? It is delicious AND reasonably priced! I first had it when my sister bought some because they have a cute label. Here's the deal: from now until December 31st, when you buy FlipFlop wine or rum you will receive a discount off of Honu Sandals.

And it gets even better :) For every pair of sandals purchased, FlipFlop will donate a pair to Soles4Souls! Remember them? Aunt Barb and her friends just passed along a HUGE donation of shoes for those in need. Now you can help too!

So to sum this up, you drink wine, get to buy new shoes AND save the world. That is amazing! So drink up and get shopping! Also, if you have any donations for the Greater Kalamazoo Holiday Food Drive please get them to me BEFORE December 21st.

soles4souls donation!

I just love my Aunt Barb :) Any time I have a save the world challenge on here...she accepts it and then goes above and beyond!

Remember a few weeks ago when I introduced you to Soles4Souls?! Well, Aunt Barb emailed everyone she could and passed the info on. This resulted in a HUGE bag of shoes that will go to children who are without.

So to Aunt Barb and all of her friends who went in on this, your kindness and desire to save the world is an inspiration. Thank you SO much! If you would like to make a shoe donation, click here to find a location near you. If you would like to read more about Soles4Souls, click here.

save lids to save lives.

It's that time of year again folks! Where everything turns a beautiful shade of PINK!

From now until the end of the year, your grocery store will be a little bit brighter as more than 20 General Mills brands will turn pink to save lives, along with Yoplait yogurt lids. All you have to do is buy PINK, and either get the lids to me, mail them in yourself OR redeem them on your own here.

For every code you redeem, the fine people at General Mills will be donating $.10 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure....up to $2.5 million! Your donations are tracked by zip code, and the donations made through this program will go toward a Susan G. Komen affiliate in your area to continue the fight against breast cancer.

I may or may not have already started my PINK yogurt shopping...I eat one of these every day, so I'm sure we'll have a lot at the end of this collection!

Remember, you can also help Susan G. Komen for the Cure by finding a Race for the Cure near you to participate in. Click here to find one near you!

So, to recap, currently I am collecting shoes for Soles4Souls, and any PINK lid or box you can find in your grocery store for Susan G. Komen. Oh, and pop tops for Ronald McDonald House! Those are THREE completely different ways you can save the world with me....pick one! Or three :)

soles for souls

Here is yet another wonderful organization that is making a huge difference in the world--one pair of shoes at a time. It's called Soles4Souls and here is their story:

"In the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami that hit Southeast Asia, Wayne Elsey, the Founder of Soles4Souls® Inc., felt compelled to do something. Like many of us, he did not know what to do. He was at home one night, watching TV and he saw a picture of a single shoe washing up on the beach. That triggered a few calls to some other executives in the footwear industry and the subsequent donation of a quarter of a million shoes to victims in the devastated countries.
A few months later when Katrina hit, Wayne called the same group of friends, and through our continued support, we have sent over a million pairs of shoes down to the gulf coast communities affected by the hurricane. In all honesty, he admits that he did not expect such an immediate and successful turnout. This left him wondering, why not start a non-profit and do this all the time? One year later, Soles4Souls was formally created.
It has been that simple: changing the world one pair at a time.
Soles4Souls receives large donations from footwear companies, retailers, churches, nonprofit ministries, civic groups, schools, and individuals and saw that this could become a full time organization. That's why Soles4Souls was created – to facilitate the donations from these groups to the people who desperately need footwear."

This is an AMAZING story of how terrible things happen and we are left wondering, how can we help? There is so much to do, so much to fix...where would we start. You start here

There are so many ways you can help Soles4Souls, so lets start with the simplest. You can donate $7 here. $7 = 7 pairs of shoes for children who are currently walking around barefoot exposing themselves to the possibility of contracting a potentially life threatening disease caused by parasites. GIVE SHOES. GIVE LOVE.

You can also clean out your closet and send your old shoes in to Soles4Souls, or find a drop off location near you! Your shoes that may not be getting use from you may mean the world to a child.

Last but not least you can go barefoot for one day (10.11.12). All you have to do is click here to sign up, and you will be sent the story of a child in a developing nation affected by the need for shoes. Carry your story with you, and when asked "Ummm....where are your shoes?!" tell the story! And then tell me about it (bethechangemakethedifference@gmail.com) so I can feature you on the blog.
